Message from the
Interim Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction:
It is truly an honor to be appointed by Superintendent
Dungee and the Central Islip Board of Education for the position of Interim Assistant
Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. This opportunity isn’t taken lightly, but with
enthusiasm to join the administrative team to help move the established
programs forward, and support the district’s vision and mission with
perseverance for ‘Children…Our Future, and Diversity Our Strength’.
Although 2020 is
an unusual year, the upcoming school year provides opportunities to build upon
new paradigms for education despite economic challenges, technological shifts or
threats from COVID-19. Last year, the traditional method of teaching was
abruptly impacted by the global pandemic. The district quickly implemented
virtual learning strategies by skillfully shifting teaching and learning
expectations to include remote learning and digital devices. Google Classroom,
Microsoft Teams, Zoom and WebEx quickly became tools used to facilitate instruction,
collaborate with principals and teachers, and communicate with parents. While
challenging, we learned many lessons that will carry us into the next year and
help us ensure student success. Schools are currently discussing procedures to
keep students, parents, teachers and staff safe while providing an enriching
educational experience.
I look forward
to building upon Central Islip’s strong academic curriculum, rich technological
resources, and great faculty to support classroom instruction, virtual
learning, data-driven and culturally -responsive practices. Through
perseverance, productive collaborations and creativity, we can improve upon the
systematic structures that support educational concepts in this era. This is an era where educational practices will
continue to evolve and birth new methods for teaching and learning. These
changes will produce amazing outcomes for our students and present
opportunities that we all can embrace.
With over thirty years of experience in teaching in, educational
supervision and administration, I’m now excited to serve as a resource for this
esteemed school district. My presence in the Central Islip Union Free School
District has spanned over twelve years in the capacity of Interim Principal,
consultant and administrator. My Master’s Degrees and Professional Degree from
Long Island University C.W. Post, were conferred for Administrator, Supervisor,
Early Childhood Administrator, and District Administrator. I plan to use my
formative training from East Islip, NYS-Childcare and Brentwood School District
to help move the district forward. Once again, I am grateful for the
opportunity to serve as Interim Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and
Instruction, and look forward to an exciting school year.
