Special Education Child Find:
The Special Education Programs in the Central Islip School District offer a full complement of services designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Programs in Special Education are available to students who have been recommended for services by the district’s CPSE/CSE. If you suspect your preschool child (ages 3-5) may have a disability, please call the Committee on Pre-School Special Education (CPSE). If you suspect your school-age child (5-21) may have a disability, please call the Committee on Special Education (CSE).
Response to Intervention (RTI):
If you suspect your child is having academic difficulty due to a possible disability and/or a learning difficulty, the best place to begin is with your child's teacher. RTI services may be made available to students who are not currently identified as needing special education and/or related services, but those who need additional supports or positive interventions related to their behavior in order to succeed in a general education classroom. These services are to be individualized and grounded in scientific strategies.
